Wordscriber's Tips
The basic's of writing, regardless of the venue are simple--you must be clear, correct, and concise!
After employing your writing skills to ensure you have met the C's of writing there are a few other helpful tips:
Use the "you" approach - the tone of the writing needs to address what the reader wants.
Keep the focus- make sure the subject of the writing remains in front of the reader at all times.
- Be active - if you keep gthe subject the focus and it takes some action you will have a more direct voice, otherwise you will address the subject in an more indirect or passive voice. (Note to readers: I personally find some instances where a passive voice is needed but always review the sentences to see if it can be written actively.)
- Eliminate wordiness- cut to the chase, don't write 20 words when you can say it for 5. Avoid using cliches and expressions of speech that add words without adding clarity. Writers don't get paid by the word, but to deliver a clear message that begs to be read.
- Edit and proofread - then do it again, looking for missing words, misspelling, grammar and consistency in voice and tone.
